- [Koblenz 2024](https://nmiller.co.uk/2024/05/31/koblenz-2024/): Koblenz is an ancient city whose name actually means ‘confluence’, appropriatly, since it sits on the confluence of the rivers Moselle and Rhine. Because of its location there are a large number of castles nearby which are just ripe for exploring by 5 boys. They are not easy to get to through, and, it turns out they are frequently closed.

Me and Dad took the Eurostar to Brussels, staying overnight on the way out giving us a bit of time to explore the city. I ran a slow half marathon on Saturday and I’ll run with the BRATs on Monday evening as a last effort but apart from my usual cycle to work I don’t be doing too much training and concentrating on making sure that I am eating correctly and plenty of stretching. - [Long runs](https://nmiller.co.uk/2018/05/07/long-runs/): The last couple of weeks I’ve been hammering out the long runs, 21.5 miles is longer than suggested for marathon training but psychologically I find it comforting to have trained beyond 20 miles. - [Saturday to Monday training ritual](https://nmiller.co.uk/2018/04/18/saturday-to-monday-training-ritual/): The weekends are held for the long runs where I am pushing my stamina and building up for the marathon. I try to do shorter and quicker runs in the evening during the week to help build up my speed, also training your sprinting also helps with muscle stamina for the marathon too. Saturday I ran 24km at about 5min/km pace which if I kept it up would put me on for 3hr 30min marathon, it included 180m of uphill to really help build up my pace. After all the royal couple to be would much rather you gave money to charity than bought them a gift. Today was my first time out leading the monday evening B runs for the BRAT Club, they gave me a bright yellow t-shirt with BRAT on it that I hid under my waterproof jacket (it was raining a lot). Pleased to say that we finished bang on 8 minute miles and I saw both the soggy souls who followed me around the course in the rain safely through to the finish.

It’s good to have a bike that handles both so well. Haven’t done a ride that long in a while so was a little saddle sore off the bike, and I need to spend some time greeting to understand how best to use drop handlebars.
