I’ve been to Spain a few times now, but there is always more to explore. This time, starting in Santander, I travelled across the country to Barcelona ticking off a few cultural highlights as I went.
Santander
I flew into Santander to meet up with my old flatmates Jorge and Francis. I had a few hours to myself before meeting up with others. We were out there for Jorge’ nieces wedding which too place in the beautiful village of Santillana Del Mar.
Finally we headed off to watch the mighty Racing Santander vs FC Cartagena.
San Sebastian
Afterwards, Francis drove me to San Sebastian, a delightightful city which I hadn’t had the chance to explore properly the last time I was there.
Zaragoza
From San Sebastian I travelled south through Vitoria-Gasteiz to Zaragoza, another tremendous city, with much more history than I’d believed. There were copious Roman ruins and statues of at least one Roman emperor. It later became a major Moorish city so there is a huge variety of different architecture.
Barcelona
Finally I arrived in Barcelona a city that I am constantly surprised that I hadn’t yet visited. That enourmous church they are still building dominates the skyline.
